The London Eye, also known as the Millennium Wheel, is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. It is Europe's tallest cantilevered observation wheel, is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over 3.75 million visitors annually, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.

The London Eye is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. It is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, and the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom, visited by over 3.5 million people annually.

The London Eye was designed by architect Frank Anatole, and the first section was built in 1999. The wheel has a diameter of 120 metres (394 ft) and is 45 metres (148 ft) tall. When it first opened to the public in 2000, it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel.

The London Eye has 32 ovoidal passenger capsules, each weighing 10 tonnes, and can carry 800 people at a time, giving it a maximum capacity of 2,400 people per hour. It rotates at a leisurely pace of 0.6 miles per hour (0.9 km/h), so a complete revolution takes about 30 minutes.

The structure is composed of two concentric rings of steel, one supporting the other, with a spoke-and-hub-system connecting the two. The outer ring is 165 metres (541 ft) in diameter and the inner ring is 120 metres (394 ft).

The London Eye was originally intended to be even larger, with a diameter of 150 metres (490 ft). However, the project was scaled down due to budget constraints.

The London Eye has become an iconic symbol of London, and is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. It has also been used as a setting for films and television programmes, and has been featured in numerous works of popular culture.
